 How Much Should I pay for a web site?Upfront you will quickly learn you get what you pay for. Many people say I can get hosting for free or allot less than this or that service. Well I can agree with that it is cheaper. But many times you find out that such cheap services limit your bandwidth you site can have and or size of your website space. Just keep in mine there are many factors which can make or break the performance of your site. The IP location and server your site is on.Besides that fact if you have good service or plenty of bandwidth & space for your site to run. If the Host provider is on a spam list, that host provider gets a range of IP's which gets blocked. Your site may have done nothing wrong but can be label guilty as such by IP range association. That can effect your emails by never getting to your intended people you send them too by their host providers. That can hurt your businesses method of contacting clients. Flash design or standard HTML sites, which is better?Flash sites are great looking I have to agree but, search engine bots still have a long way to go before many of them can read and understand the flash code. What does that me to you? That means to the human eye we see the visual beauty of a flash site. Web Bots do not see the art work! All bots see is there is an image file named "intro". Now with Flash sites the entire page is embedded into a file caller which the search bot see that this page is calling up a file and that is it. An easy example of this is you can go to a bot spider simulator. 8 times out of 10 a flash sites contents, metatags, keywords links in and out & page content are never 100% read if anything at all. You might see a title & the flash application caller. And just remember all the 20 flash pages are compiled into one flash caller. Now the HTML code if W3C standards a bot can see 9 times out of 10 all of the links in and out, titles, content, image tags, for all 20 pages. That Bot will see all the code of the 20 pages and know where to place each of the pages in the search engines. Don't get me wrong I like the look of flash sites but I would never make an entire site in flash. Flash is a great visual appeal for a website as a banner, header graphic or buttons. The page contents should be done in HTML and only use flash to enhance visualization of your pages story or topic, or use a flash button caller to email the site. Flash email me buttons might stop spam better because many spam crawlers can read the file from the code caller. Should I use a free template or have one done for my site?Yes so its free for you to download and use. There is just one problem Say like a real estate template. Say you down load it and so did 400 to 600 other people. That means those host providers which allow you to use templates from the pick & use list. That is very bad because search bots will see about 60% to 90% that everyone using that same template are close duplications of each others sites. That has a chance for your site taking a hit for not being unique. The passed fear was that link farms would use the same templates to mass link & point to sites which would pay for traffic. That same search bot algorithm sometimes mistakes duplicated sites & content as link farms and drops them from the search engines. It is always better to have your own template and that it is yours. If someone steals it or copies it from your site you have a choice. Pursue legal action against them or make a few changes to you code CSS & tags that they would have to change them not to look like your site or be seen as your site.
