Sites which you link to might go dead, images from other sites which
your reference may be renamed. Sitemap generators might reformat the
names of your pages, these are are things to reflect broken links in
or from your site. That in turn can hurt your web sites impression of
your sites upkeep and worthiness to the search engines. in your getting
your site page rank up. You can have your links page maintained, rss
feeds added and monitored as well as other scripts added to keep up-to-date
content showing on your pages.
If you can not do this it is a good idea to have software or a webmaster
to keep on top of your sites links. BIG PROBLEM did you know if you
gave links to a great site site with good pr and it has now gone dead.
Two bad things can happen.
Getting
De-indexed or banned from the search engines.
- 1st that website domain (above paragraph) was purchased by a link
farm company. That bad site(s) are discovered by the search engines
and your site is seen giving them a link in supporting their cause,
YOUR site can get de-listed and banned! and even quicker to how many
your pointing to.
- 2nd As above a url you link to goes out of business and some adult
related company buys that domain which your site is linking to. Now
you have links from your site pointing to unsafe sites if you have a
child friendly website.
Many webmasters and myself have seen this happen, even big companies
with theme parks in Florida for the family have had a link or two point
to an off site which was taken over by such non-family related site.
However large companies stay on top of such things so they do not go
unchecked for to long. Do you?
